Sanctuary and Sheltered is Kayla’s interpretation of Grant Wood’s iconic American Gothic. However, this piece takes a more complex approach, addressing broad themes such as American rural life, Midwestern values, cultural conservatism, and American resilience. The piece is intentionally open-ended, inviting viewers to interpret its meaning through their own perspectives and experiences.
